International pet transportation
sometimes becomes
necessary, whether you are relocating to a foreign country
or will be traveling there for some time. Bringing your pet
across borders can be tricky, but with the right preparation
and research, you can arrange to bring your pet with you no
matter where you are traveling. If you’re planning on
transporting your pet
internationally, here are
some great tips to help you ensure that the process goes as
smoothly as possible.
Make sure you have the
proper documentation.
Each country has its own
set of rules, and some require a quarantine, so you want
to research your destination's regulations well ahead of
time, at least a month or more in advance. In some
countries, animals can only be received at certain
airports, so your best bet is to check with your
destination’s consulate to be sure. Most countries
require that any animals coming from the United States
have proper documentation, both from a local
veterinarian and the USDA vet as well. It’s important
that you have all the paperwork in order before you
travel. Otherwise, your pet may end up stranded at an
airport and held in quarantine for an undetermined
amount of time, or the airline may return your pet to
the airport of origin at your expense.
Choose a properly sized
travel container for
Pet Transport.
You want to be sure that the
carton is well ventilated and that your pet has enough
space to stand, turn about normally while standing, sit
erect, and lie in a natural position. Speak to the
airline to find out their guidelines concerning pet
containers, and be sure to try out the crate you
purchase ahead of time to make sure your pet will have
enough room while traveling. Also make sure to label the
crate in multiple places in case your pet gets lost.
Familiarize your dog or cat with
their crate before
pet shipping
You want to get your pet comfortable
with his surroundings ahead of time. Provide plenty of
opportunities for him to become familiar with the crate
before departure in order to decrease his stress level
on traveling day. It may also help to put an article of
clothing with your scent on it in the kennel for
comfort. Make sure you've provided enough food and water
in the crate for the time you’re going to be traveling
as well.
If you choose an
international pet relocation or
pet travel company, be sure
it’s affiliated.
There are a couple of
organizations that set standards for this industry,
including IATA (International Air Transport Association)
and IPATA (Independent Pet and Animal Transportation
Association International). If you’re going to hire an
outside company to make international pet transportation
arrangements for you, go with one that has a membership
with one of these organizations.

Thank you for your kindness and attention with my dog Bucky, I appreciate your sensitivity.

I have been using Pet Taxi for close to 5 years. The service is great, they know ALL of the vets in Los Angeles and the surrounding areas AND the driver is pet friendly and professional. Their prices are reasonable, too, even with gas prices being close to 4.00 a gallon.
